YMCA Murals

Thanks to Tess Corriveau, I have had the honour of painting a few murals in her classroom at the YMCA. The Y Works Program helps youth (15-30) overcome barriers to employment by offering group-based workshops that focus on resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation, time management, and conflict resolution. Graduates are then connected to paid jobs within the community or relevant training in their chosen field.

This particular project’s focus was a 7-foot tree for her students to use to show participation. The concept was that as students circulate through the program, they each have the opportunity to add a cut out of their hand, filling up the tree with leaves. It is a fun way to visually represent the success of the program. She also requested a few additional logos to add some colour to the space which are shown below.

Intricate Connections

Intricate Connections is a series of expressive line drawings, exploring the complicated nature of people and their relationships. As I develop my art practice, I often find myself returning to the term sonder and what it represents. It is the realization that each passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. Behind this work is an intention to engage with, and explore an important discussion on awareness and mindfulness; of ourselves, and others ― about how everyone’s lives are just as complicated as our own, if not more.
